Man invented instruments of war just as mankind invented musical instruments: one shows man’s primitive past and destructive tendencies, while the other taps into higher cerebral frequencies, which acknowledge the Collective Consciousness.

Enter Kylmyys: Popularly referred to as an electronic/acoustic ambient act, but maybe more accurately this synth-duo could be described as artistic portrayers of the interaction between the blue planet and its denizens, crossing the flesh/metal divide by creating melodies and rhythms with new and old technologies.
Influenced by such seminal acts as Brian Eno, Trent Reznor, Sigur Rós, Pink Floyd, Christoph de Babalon and Atticus Ross, Kylmyys is truly eclectic: These soundscapers blur genre boundaries with enigmatic, fluxing landscapes of sound, visiting an array of styles from Ambient, to Trip Hop, to IDM.

Hailing from the city of Seattle amongst romantic, rain-drenched back alleyways and awe-inspiring, snowcapped, mountain tops— peaking through billowy clouds —Kylmyys musicians Brian Kidd and Jason Chamberlain do not have to travel far to find musical inspiration. However, since the band’s debut self-release The Ice Breaks at Dawn in the summer of 2012 and the subsequent release of the critically acclaimed single Cosmosis (released on Automation Records) in early 2013, thanks to positive reception on the Internet, these prolific songsmiths have gained attention far outside the North American Continent. This includes getting noticed by Swiss label Creaked Records, who will release the duo’s five-song EP, Isostatic, in January 2014.

Kylmyys began as an ambient electronic duo providing background music for art galleries. The presence of the duo, shrouded in darkness, in their Venetian bird masks, while operating banks of electronic devices is practically an art instillation itself and stumbling upon them in the corner or basement of a gallery lends a sense of mystery & wonder to your entire visit. Over time the Kylmyys sound evolved and they began bringing their music to the foreground by infusing their soundscapes with a pop sensibility. While continuing their gallery work and uploading their weekly jam sessions online, in 2012, Kylmyys recorded their debut album “The Ice Breaks At Dawn” which fused beats and melodies to their cold ambient soundsacpes. They followed up the album with a few singles, Cosmosis on Automation Records and The Eternal (their Joy Division cover).

The Isostatic EP is the next step in Kylmyys evolution and while synth ambience remains a presence the duo continues to evolve further adding some acoustic instruments into the mix moving their sound into lush downtemo IDM territory.

Kylmyys invites you to immerse yourself into its entrancing compositions and be transported into the musical milieu of percussive glitches interwoven with lush ambient soundscapes— connecting yourself to the source of universal biorhythms.
